A day after exit polls predicted that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance will win and form the next government comfortably, there were a flurry of activity in Maharashtra.

RSS general secretary Bhaiyyaji Joshi met BJP leader and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in Nagpur to discuss the political situation. Joshi was accompanied by the party general secretary and West Bengal in-charge Kailash Vijayvargiya.

Even though Gadkari has repeatedly clarified he is not eyeing the PM's post, his proximity to RSS works in his favour. Observers believe the meeting between Joshi and Gadkari indicated the latter will have a major say in the formation of the new government at the Centre if the exit polls come true on May 23.

Gadkari admitted that the exit polls are not the "final decision" but indicate the BJP will again come to power, on the development work done by the NDA government. Most exit polls have forecast another term for PM Modi, with some projecting the BJP-led NDA would get over 300 seats to cross the 272 majority mark in Lok Sabha.

Amidst the slew of political developments, Gadkari launched the movie poster of PM Narendra Modi, which will be released on Friday.

State BJP chief Raosaheb Danve said the party with its ally Shiv Sena will win 42 of the total 48 seats in Maharashtra. ''Voters have wholeheartedly voted for BJP-Shiv Sena alliance. They were not amused by motley opposition parties where each and every leader was nursing Prime Ministerial ambition,'' he said. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' close confidante and the state water resources minister Girish Mahajan said the voters have accepted the saffron alliance in Maharashtra. As far as Sharad Pawar led NCP is concerned, Mahajan said the party needs to do self-introspection for its survival.

Meanwhile, Pawar, who was called on by the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Rahul Gandhi and Sharad Pawar, to rally support for a non-BJP government at the Centre, flew to Mumbai and attended the Iftar party organised by his party in the city. Pawar met his party leaders to discuss post result strategy.
