Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Tuesday claimed that 90% seat distribution Pimpri-Chinchwad was done on the basis of ‘elective merit’ and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) was able to persuade the upset aspirants.

Addressing a press conference in Chinchwad, Pawar said, “The card committee set up by the NCP local leaders of Pimpri-Chinchwad agreed on almost 80% seats. The candidates were selected on the basis of merit. I met three candidates in Pimpri-Chinchwad and convinced them.”

On rebel candidate and former mayor Vaishali Ghodekar, Pawar said that as she couldn’t utilise the opportunity given to her by the party during the last civic polls, the ticket was given to another candidate this time.

On the NCP giving tickets to two candidates whose names were listed among the top ten criminals of the city, namely Suresh Nishkalje and Avinash Tekawade, Pawar said that Nishkalje was from the RPI-Gawai-Gangadhar group, the alliance party of NCP in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Pawar urged for definite victory to complete the Pune International Exhibition and Convention Centre to be be set up at Moshi and the international airport near Pimpri-Chinchwad.
