A scientist from city-based National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Dattatraya H Dethe, has been selected for the Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India (OPPI) Young Scientist award 2011 for his research work in the area of pharmaceutical sciences.

The award, consisting of a memento, a citation and a cash prize, will be presented to him during OPPI’s annual general meeting on September 27 in Mumbai.

Dethe is also the recipient of CSIR Young Scientist award 2011 and young associate of the Indian Academy of Sciences for 2011-14.

The OPPI has instituted the award in collaboration with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) as part of its public-private partnership to honour outstanding research scientists working in India to encourage scientific culture.

Dethe is attached to the organic chemistry division of NCL and works in the area of total synthesis of bioactive natural products.

He joined the NCL in 2009 and has 13 publications to his credit, apart from filing one patent.
