Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has written to the government of Brazil asking them to track the supplier of a consignment of cocaine to a Brazilian woman who had come to Mumbai from Sao Paulo last month. She had hidden 480 grams of cocaine in capsules which were concealed in her private parts. The lady was supposed to circulate the contraband in other parts of the country, the agency said.

Last month, NCB sleuths had apprehended 38-year-old Pinto Karliaine at the Mumbai international airport, when she arrived from Sao Paulo via Dubai. Since nothing was found from Karliaine, the NCB sleuths, after court's permission, got her examined at JJ Hospital. Her examination revealed that nine pellets containing 480 grams of cocaine worth Rs3 crore were concealed in her vagina and rectum.

"Further probe has revealed that she was supposed to be picked up from the airport by a local contact in Mumbai and was to be taken to a hideout where the capsules were to be ejected. Karliaine, who had come on a tourist visa had plans to distribute the contraband in various parts of the country," said an NCB official, requesting anonymity.

Following the incident, the NCB has taken up the matter with the Brazilian government. "We have written to the Brazil government asking them to track the antecedents of Karliane and also trace the person who had given her the consignment of cocaine," the official said.

The agency officials also stated that Karliane had done a dry run earlier as this was her second visit to Mumbai.
