Naxals hijack explosive raw material laden vehicle in Maharashtra
The carrier, which was transporting a mixture of ammonium nitrate, commercially known as Kelmatrix, was intercepted by a group of Naxals between Dhanora and Yerkad village.
In a daring incident, Naxals have allegedly hijacked a vehicle laden with raw materials for manufacturing explosives on the Dhanora-Murumgaon road. The vehicle was heading to Naxal-infested Dantewada in Chhattisgarh when the incident took place in the early morning of March 10. Police said the carrier, which was transporting a mixture of ammonium nitrate, commercially known as Kelmatrix, was learnt to be intercepted by a group of Naxals between Dhanora and Yerkad village. Police said that nearly 16 metric tonnes of the raw material, worth nearly Rs2.75-lakh was being stolen. The raw materials were being transported from MIDC area of Chandrapur to National Mineral Development Corporation in Chhatisgarh, where the emulsion was supposed to be used for preparing high quality explosives. The incident came to light when the driver of the truck was released by the Naxals, who then approached the Dhanora police station and lodged a complaint. In his FIR, he informed the police that he along with a two other drivers and a cleaner were travelling when the truck was intercepted by a group of Naxalites who took the vehicle through a temporary road until it reached an undisclosed place near Malewada surrounded by hillocks.
