Navi Mumbai Congress members rush to Pune for a date with Rahul Gandhi

Navi Mumbai district Congress members, led by president Dashrath Bhagat, will be meeting party vice-president Rahul Gandhi in Pune today to apprise him of political equations ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

The delegation will also raise local issues, including corruption in Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC).

Gandhi will be in Pune today to meet the district committees from Konkan, western Maharashtra and north Maharashtra areas. He will discuss various issues that local committees have been facing.

“The purpose behind Gandhi’s visit is to gauge on how the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) and All India Congress Committee (AICC) can help district committees in strengthening the party’s base ahead of the 2014 elections,” said a local Congress leader.

Besides Bhagat, the delegation will comprise Namdeo Bhagat, corporators in Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, general secretaries and vice presidents of the party unit in the satellite city, corporators Santosh Shetty, Anita Shetty, Pranali Lad, Sindhu Naik, Navi Mumbai Congress treasurer, Avinash Lad and Ramakant Mhatre.

“Apart from discussing the political scenario, we will be discussing various issues related to the municipal corporation and point out the alleged corruption involving JNNURM funds,” said an office bearer from Navi Mumbai Congress.

He added, “We will be briefing Gandhi about the one-time planning project proposal, which was passed by the civic body, and demand an inquiry into various transactions of the corporation. We have already raised matters such as garbage collection and transportation, mechanised sweeping project and one-time planning project with the chief minister. We expect Gandhi to direct appropriate authorities to inquire into our charges of corruption against the ruling party in the municipal corporation.”

The party leader further said, “The issue of extra floor space index which is pending with the chief minister too will be discussed with the Gandhi scion. We will be raising all the matters pertaining to the municipal corporation and Cidco which affect the residents of the city and hope to get a positive response.”
