A vegetable trader, based in Navi Mumbai, was robbed of gold jewellery, including cash, worth Rs 2.9 crore by five men and a woman at gunpoint on Friday afternoon.

The attackers posed as courier staff and entered the trader's house before brandishing a knife and a revolver at the complainant, Arun Menkundale, Vashi Police said. They also held Arun's wife and daughter hostage while the horror unfolded.

The intruders took away all the cash, gold and silver jewellery and other items worth Rs 2.9 crore. "The robbery took place around 1 pm when Menkundale was at home with his wife and daughter. We are scanning CCTV footage in the area and identify the robbers," said Ajaykumar Landage, senior police inspector of Vashi police station.
