Sonawane, who works at Wockhardt hospital, was attacked on August 26 afternoon by the relatives of a patient, Pushpa Tile, and beaten up badly.

Tile had become critical during an operation and the doctors wanted to inform the relatives about it. But before Sonawane could explain anything, the relatives started abusing him and beat him up.

The police immediately arrested four of the relatives of the patient under sections relating to attempt to murder, abduction and assault. In protest, doctors in the city stopped their work and shut  clinics on Friday. In an urgent general body meeting of the Indian Medical Association, it was decided to form a ‘Nashik Doctors’ Forum’ to handle such incidents.
