Even as the hawking issue is been decided, Napean Sea Road residents have complained of new illegal hawkers who have come into one of their lanes.

The residents say hawking is now done through vehicles that work as shops. “There were around three to four of them. We have been complaining but not enough action was taken,” said Gita Mirchandani, chairperson of Napean Sea Road Citizens Forum (NSRCF).

“There is no footpath, the place where they park the vehicles are no parking areas and they do not even have licences. Hence they need to be removed,” said Mukul Mehra, secretary of NSRCF.

“I do not know what is with the hawkers and encroachment department and BMC. They just do not seem to be clearing this issue. If they remove encroachments, Mumbai will be clean. Even when residents are against it, I do not understand why they do not take any action?” asked Jyotsna Mehta, ward committee chairperson.

“We are taking routine action now. The action will be regular henceforth,” said V Mote, assistant municipal commissioner of D ward (Malabar Hill), under whose jurisdiction the issue exists.
