Speaking at the event, president of IMC's ladies wing Shalini Piramal said, "I am really happy that we have been able to make some difference to the society from our end. I hope the IMC ladies wing undertake more such initiatives. I also want to thank Commissioner of Police Ahmad Javed for taking time out from his busy schedule."

She added, "There was a need for the canteen in the hospital, as there was no facility for hygenic food for the realtives of patients. The policemen of our city are our saviours and it is our duty to take care of them." Piramal also thanked Nayantara Jain, ex-chairperson of Social Responsibility Committee of IMC ladies wing for handling the project.

Thanking Maria for the initiative, Javed said, "I am grateful to Mrs Preeti Maria for her contribution in renovating the canteen. The facility will be beneficial for the hospital staff and relatives of the patients. They will now receive food in a clean environment."

Echoing the sentiment, Jain said, "Preeti would personally visit police hospitals and residential quarters and it was she who brought such a noble initative to me. There is no canteen in the vicinity, and Mrs Maria knew that the place lacked basic facilities, such as clean food and water. We started the project in May upon her suggestion."

Jain also emphasised the conditions in which the police personnel operate. "The police protect us and look after our safety. It is our duty to honour them and at least fulfill their basic requirements. The citizens must me made aware about their work conditions. I thank Ahmad Javed for giving his whole-hearted support to the project," she said.

The open-air canteen would be operated by women self-help groups and will provide cheap and hygenic food to patients and their relatives. If successful, the model will be implemented elsewhere as well.
