Nadia gang rape: Thousands in Mumbai march in support of 72-year-old nun

The alumni of Fort Convent, St Anne's High School, nuns and residents of Colaba and Fort gathered near Radio Club on Saturday evening for a peace march protesting against the gang-rape of a 72-year-old nun in West Bengal's Nadia district.Almost 700 people, bearing candles, walked from Radio Club till the Fort Convent school.Gitanjali Gurbaxani, a former student of Fort Convent, said, "I am deeply hurt by what has happened. We are united. The selfless sisters have taught us, guided us, shaped our lives and helped us grow into the women we have become."Colaba resident Kavita Advani, who is former-vice president of films and television firm, Lintas, participated in the march despite having suffered a stroke a few year ago and having fractured her left ankle. She marched along with her maid to show support.Another former student of CJM was Sarita Jatia Berlia, who had flown from Calcutta to attend this peace march. She said, "We decided the peace march after we came to know about the incident from a former student through a social networking site."Christian communities of not just the city, but across the country have come together to show solidarity with the elderly nun who was gang-raped by suspected robbers after breaking into the Convent and looting as much as Rs 12 lakh.
