My husband is simple, innocent: Alleged Pakistan spy’s wife:

Javed Abdul Gafoor Mozawala’s, 28, wife Fatima and his well-wishers vouched for his innocence at a press conference held on Monday at the Marathi Patrakar Sangh at CST. “My husband is a simple and innocent man. Unko fasaya gaya hai (He has been framed),” Fatima said.

Mozawala was arrested on December 8 on charges of spying for Pakistan. Police said that some documents pertaining to sensitive establishments were seized from him. The police also claimed to have procured from him a manual in English on communications and tactics meant for Islamic terror groups. The remand application also mentioned seizures of photos of dams, bridges, defence cantonments along with mobiles, SIM cards, CDs, and pen drives.

His advocate Mubin Solkar denied all allegations. Solkar said that he was arrested from his flat at Infinity Tower, Mazgaon, on the night of December 7 and detained illegally for a day. “While in police custody he was taken to Lonavla and some photos of restricted areas were taken and he was asked to click some of them. This could be to foist them on him later,” Solkar said.

“They took away his passport, school and college mark-sheets, three cell phones, ATM cards and bike keys. No search was conducted of the premises and no seizure of any incriminating material took place.”

According to the Mumbai police crime branch, Mozawala had allegedly conducted a recce of 20-25 sites across the country and given the information to two diplomats in the Pakistan High Commission during his trips to Delhi. He has been booked under sections of the Official Secrets (OS) Act, 1923, and the IPC.

Solkar, however, said, “Javed is an Indian and he loves his country. He is not involved in any anti-national activity.” Solkar said that it was possible that Mozawala may have been targeted because of his visits to Pakistan. He said Mozawala and his family had visited Pakistan with a valid visa.
