MUMBAI: Eminent Muslim scholar and Vice President of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Maulana Mukhtar Ahmed Nadvi, passed away last night at a private hospital following a prolonged illness.

His was buried at the Muslim Qabristan in Juhu on Monday, a family member said.

The 70-year-old scholar was also the chief of the Ahle-hadees sect of the Muslim community, and a member of the Rabta-e-Aalm, an internationally acclaimed apex body of the Muslim scholars.

A good orator, he had a deep understanding of the Islam, and was attached with several Muslim educational institutes in Mahrashtra, UP and Bangalore.

Maulana Mukhtar Nadvi also edited an Islamic monthly magazine, Al-Bilal, from Mumbai.
