Deepika Parmar, who allegedly killed her one-month-old child at KEM Hospital, said that she had no motive to kill her child and was depressed at the time. Hence, the murder charge in her case is inapplicable.
On October 26, Deepika’s girl child was found dead in the hospital. The child was allegedly thrown out of the bathroom by Deepika. Later, she was admitted in the psychiatry ward of the hospital and treated for post-partum depression. She was charged with section 317 (exposure and abandonment of child) and murder.
“She is depressed and is still not fit as per doctor’s report. She had no intention to kill her child. Murder charge is not applicable,” said advocate Devendra Yadav who appears for Deepika.
Her bail application stated that since the treatment is not available in jail, Deepika should be sent to Thane Mental Hospital. It also pleaded that since Deepika’s other child, Krishna about three months old, needs her, she should be released on bail.
Deepika was never kept in police custody and was sent to judicial custody immediately after arrest.
