Who knew that watching excessive television and playing games could lead to death? A 27-year-old woman burnt herself to death after her husband got angry at her for watching too much television and playing too many mobile phone games. The incident took place on Sunday, December 4 in the evening. The deceased has been identified as Sonal Shavadekar.

According to the police, Sonal was very fond of watching television serials and was addicted to mobile phone games, which would irritate her husband. On the day of incident, Sonal was playing a mobile phone game when her husband Atul shouted at her to stop playing.

In a fit of anger, she poured kerosene on her body and set herself on fire. Atul immediately went inside to control the fire, burning his hands in the process. Sonal was immediately rushed to Nair hospital but succumbed to the burn injuries on Saturday morning.

Police have arrested Atul for abetment to suicide but later released on bail. “Sonal was a short-tempered and she burnt herself after having an argument with her husband,” said senior police inspector, Sudhakar Ghagare from the NM Joshi Marg police station. The couple were living alone.
