Senior police inspector of Gamdevi police station, Gokulsingh Patil has been suspended from office after the Anti Narcotic Cell (ANC) conducted two successive raids at dance bars within the Gamdevi jurisdiction after which it was found that Patil was allegedly neglecting the ongoing illegal activities.

This is the first instance of a senior police inspector being suspended from after the new police commissioner, Sanjay Barve took charge. According to the police sources, the ANC sleuths had carried out two raids at Indian Bar and Golden Goose bar respectively. "In the second raid, the officers had arrested a total of 51 people including a cashier, manager, supervisor, 9 waiters, 31 customers and 8 bar girls. After an arrest, the local police station is supposed to lodge an FIR and produce all the accused people before the magistrate court, but the Gamdevi police set all the accused free by accepting cash bail. The illegal activities within the jurisdiction and Patil's negligence to curb them drew the attention of the senior after which the action was initiated," said a police officer who requested anonymity.

Previously, the ANC officers had raided a dance bar at MIDC area of Andheri after which the police did not take any action. Later, the concerned officers had to face inquiry and action.
