The Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL), operator of Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro-1 corridor, announced that it has achieved the mark of carrying 400 million (40 crore) passengers on its 1,423 rd day of operation on Monday, after almost four years of its operations. It also said that Metro-1 witnessed a growth of 13 per cent in ridership in 2017-18, when compared to same period last year.

On weekdays, Metro One operates 378 to 382 trips daily, wherein the average ridership is around 3.35 lakh passengers.

MMOPL, in a statement, said: "2017-18 also marked high performance levels in punctuality and availability of trains. We operated 1,25,894 train trips in 2017-18, with punctuality performance of 99.9 per cent."

The Metro-1 corridor, measuring 11.40-km-long, has 12 Metro stations between Versova and Ghatkopar. Andheri and Ghatkopar Metro stations see maximum ridership.

According to the MMOPL statement, "This increase has established Metro-1 as a preferred mode of transport for travelling between suburban stations of Andheri & Ghatkopar and shorter distance stations. The year 2017-18 witnessed a growth of 13 per cent in ridership."

Further, the first 100 million ridership mark took 398 days, the second took 388 days, followed by 337 days for third 100 million mark, and the recent one took just 300 days, taking the overall ridership to 400 million.

MMOPL attributed this impressive growth in the number of commuters to persistent efforts by it to provide value-added services, safety, cleanliness, and comfort that the commuters have come to expect from it.

The city's first Metro corridor was made operational in June 2014, connecting the eastern and western suburbs. Metro-1 corridor is the eight densest Metro corridor in the world.
