Mumbai-Pune Expressway to have power points for charging electric vehicles soon

Soon you will be able to charge your electric vehicle on India's first Expressway between Mumbai and Pune as the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has planned to have electric vehicle charging point on the 94-km-long Mumbai-Pune Expressway that will have the facility of fast and slow charging of electric vehicles.

The MSEDCL has sought land for the same from Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) for the electric charging points. The state and Central government has been promoting the usage of electric vehicles, and has recently also announced purchase of electric vehicles for state government officials.

A MSRDC official said, "We had got in writing from MSEDCL to allot land to them for setting up around seven electric vehicle charging stations. They wrote to us on allotting plots measuring of around 2,000 square feet where charging stations can be set up in order to have more than 3 vehicles getting charged at the same time."

The MSEDCL plans to have 500 stations across the state in a phase-wise manner by 2020 under National Mobility Mission. Cities like Nashik and Pune have been on the list where electric car charging stations are to be coming up. The MSEDCL had also recently floated bids for installation of 50 charging stations across state.

The MSRDC official said, "We will allot space for electric vehicle charging, and plots can be in areas like Khalapur, Lonavala where road access is already given to food plazas and petrol pumps.
