In a bid to ensure peaceful vote counting in Mumbai, the police on Friday put a three-tier security system in place at the four counting centres. The outermost tier will be manned by the police, followed by the state reserve police force and central paramilitary forces.

Speaking about the safety arrangements, Dhananjay Kamlakar, joint commissioner of police, law and order, said, "Adequate security will be there on counting day. Senior officers such as deputy commissioners and additional commissioners will be in-charge at the counting centres. Over 2,000 policemen will be on duty." He added that police patrolling will be done in sensitive areas.

"If any political party members approach us for carrying out processions following the results, depending on the situation, permission will be granted for the same," Kamlakar said.
