The arrival of DK Shivakumar, who had saved many a crisis for Congress, to the hotel where party rebels from Karnataka were put up, was seen as a turning point in the Kar'nataka' being played out in Mumbai. But instead of hitting a six or a four, he had to return duck.

Called 'Kotwal' (police constable), Shivakumar had gained the reputation of a 'troubleshooter' over the years. He was often parachuted into middle of an emergency and is famous for leaving no man behind. He had come with a plan to win back the rebel MLAs, belonging to the Congress and JD(S), to save the coalition government in his home state. However, unlike in the past, Shivakumar could not succeed to counter opponents this time and was soon outpaced by the rebels.

Known as DKS in political circles, Shivakumar is an all-weather man for the Congress and had fought the Gowda family in their bastion to reach the top of Karnataka politics. Earlier this year, he herded legislators to the Eagleton Resort during first attempt of 'Operation Kamala'. In May 2018 too, Shivakumar was at the forefront to keep Congress and JD(S) together and had led a frontal attack against BJP for allegedly indulging in horse trading.

He managed to track down and bring two "missing" MLAs — Pratap Gouda Patil and Anand Singh — back into the party. His operations yielded results as the coalition government proved the majority in the assembly last year.

Shivakumar had hosted Congress MLAs from Gujarat and 'saved' them from being poached during Ahmed Patel's RS election bid. Patel had won the election defeating the BJP nominee. He was raided by the Income Tax and ED, but that did not made him budge.

Way back in 2002, Shivakumar came to the rescue of Congress government led by Vilasrao Deshmukh after the Opposition staged a coup to topple the Maharashtra government. Shivakumar was then given the mandate to take all Congress legislators and host them at Eagleton Resort on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
