Three months on, there seems no end to the first year junior college (FYJC) admissions. After conducting the phase 3 of first-come, first-serve (FCFS) that was said to be the final round for the academic year 2019-20, state education department has decided to introduce yet another round for the left out students. Close to 90,000 plus seats are still lying vacant in the colleges at Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

"On the last two days of phase 3 of FCFS, many students and parents approached us for either cancellation of their existing seats or fresh admissions. However, we have cleared it to them (parents) that no more cancellations will happen," said a senior official looking after the FYJC admissions at the state education department. Last month, before the phase 3 began, a link for cancellation were provided in the official website of FYJC admissions for such cases.

"The fresh round will be only for students who have not managed to get a single seat in their name," the official added. As per our sources at the department, the fresh round will once again be as per the FCFS format ie phase 4 or final round. This round will only be for the ATKT students or the students who cleared their supplementary exams in the month of August, or the ones who were not allotted any seats.

"I got my mark sheets late after my supplementary exams," said Vivek Dhase, a student. The results of these exams are declared and issued by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE).

"They kept on delaying it for some reason and because of that I couldn't apply for FYJC admissions. But they (education department) gave me options like trying night colleges or skill development courses or wait for another round of FYJC to announce. I just don't want to lose my year at any cost," added Dhase, who stays in Kandivali.

The fresh dates and schedule of the new round will be declared this week.

Since it's already been three months colleges have commenced and it's about time the first term or semester exams begin in colleges, late admission getters will be provided extra lectures and practicals in order to cover the missed syllabus.
