World Forestry Day, observed for the first time in 2013, is marked on March 21 every year internationally.

"We will be forming a human chain for a global cause, which is saving trees. Over 1,000 trees are expected to be axed as part of the proposed Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro project," said Kanika Maheshwari Acharya, a resident of Cuffe Parade.

The human chain will start at the promenade, opposite Jazz by the Bay or Hotel Intercontinental and go on till Mafatlal Junction/Girgaum, depending on the number of people turning up for the silent protest.

"The event will start at 5pm and go on for an hour. It is intended to be a peaceful and symbolic show of solidarity by citizens across Mumbai," said Stalin D of the Save Aarey forum.
