The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has fast-tracked the documentation work for the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ underground metro project, by inviting pre-qualification bids for design and construction of stations and tunnels. “Once the bids are in, we will shortlist the designs and the firms that will undertake the work. In December we will call for final tenders,” said an MMRC official. The civil works have been planned in seven separate contract packages. The corporation plans to appoint a consultant by early 2014 for general supervision of the project, and the contracts will be awarded after that.
“Procuring tunnel boring machines could take up to three months. Construction activity will commence only by Oct 2014,” the official said.
