A 25-year-old woman, who was six-months pregnant, was stabbed allegedly by her 35-year-old married lover in Bhisol jungle on the Murbad-Ambernath road around 2.30pm on Tuesday, the police said. The accused has been identified as Anil Rajbhar.

Rajbhar, said the police, had called the woman for a chat about their marriage plans. During the conversation, they got into an argument and Rajbhar, who was carrying a knife, allegedly stabbed the woman thrice on the neck. The petrified woman ran downhill towards a bus-stop.

A policeman, Anant Jadhav, who saw her running scared halted his vehicle rushed to her rescue. He took her to Central Hospital in Ulhasnagar. The girl, was later shifted to Sion hospital.
