Mumbai: Man & son attack traffic cop, arrested

A father-son duo was arrested by the Gamdevi police after they allegedly manhandled a police constable who took an action upon them for driving in a No-Entry zone. The incident resulted in a traffic chaos in the area and a video of the incident also went viral.

According to the police, constable M Sanap, of Tardeo Traffic Police Chowky, stopped a car (MH 01-BY-1629) while it entered in a No Entry zone at Forgit Street at around 8 pm on Friday.

"As per Sanap's complaint, his action irked car driver Jashan Munwani, following which Munwani, his father Jay, and two of their associates got into brawl with Sanap. They manhandled Sanap," said Deputy Commissioner of Police, Manjunath Singe. While the altercation was on, it led to a traffic snarl at the spot.

Sanap then got a police complaint registered against Jashan & Jay Munwani at Gamdevi Police Station under sections 353 (assault a public servant from discharge of his duty, 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) of Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of Motor Vehicles Act.

"Munwani father-son duo was arrested by the Gamdevi police after the case was registered," said DCP Singe.
