Amboli police have arrested a 37-year old man for allegedly murdering his friend. The deceased person used to stalk and harass wife of the arrested person and in a fit of rage the accused allegedly stabbed his friend to death.

The arrested person has been identified as Tej Bahadur Maurya.

According to the police, Jogeshwari residents Maurya and deceased Rajesh Singh, 25, were known to each other since a long time and were good friends. Both were poor and used to do small chores for their living.

“Singh who reside on a footpath opposite to Maurya's building and often used to stalk his wife. On Wednesday around 10 pm, while Maurya's wife was coming out of her building, Singh came in front of her and began molesting her by touching her inappropriately. Getting annoyed by this act, the woman and Singh started quarrelling and soon the duo entered into a heated argument,” said a police officer.

He added, on learning about the ongoing incident, when Maurya came to resolve the dispute and tried to make Singh understand, Singh started scuffling with him after which the duo started fighting with each other. “After a moment, Singh suddenly took a sharp knife which was placed nearby him and he allegedly stabbed Maurya. Maurya fell down unconscious and while he was being rushed to hospital he died due to excessive bleeding and severe wounds,” the officer said.

One of the eyewitnesses then registered a complaint against Maurya after which he was immediately nabbed by the police. “After arresting Maurya we have recovered the weapon used in the killing and we are also interrogating him. We are further probing the matter and have booked Singh on charges of murder,” said the officer.
