Mumbai: Man assaults wife, ends up killing mother-in-law

The Samta Nagar police are on the lookout for a 28-year-old man for allegedly killing his mother-in-law and attempting to kill his wife over suspicions of an extramarital affair.

The accused has been identified as Mithilesh Mishra.

According to the police, the incident took place on Thursday evening when Mishra had gone to meet his wife at his in-law's house. The police said Mishra's wife had left his home a year ago as he was alcoholic and over his habit of suspecting her of an affair. On Thursday, he went to his in-law's house when his wife and mother-in-law were in the home. As he entered the house, an argument broke out between the couple and it led to assault during which Mishra took a knife out and started stabbing his wife. Seeing that Mishra was stabbing his wife, his mother-in-law rushed to intervene when in a fit of rage, he stabbed her to death and fled from the spot, said the police.

After hearing the noise, the neighbours informed the police and both the injured were rushed to a hospital. However, the mother-in-law was declared dead on arrival. We have registered a case against Mishra and are on the lookout for him," said Anil Mane, Senior Police Inspector of Samta Nagar Police Station. "Preliminary probe revealed that the couple would fight often and Mishra would frequently assault his wife due to which she left the house and lived at her mother's place," Mane added.
