"A final decision on the extent of water cut will be taken in the meeting with municipal commissioner on Tuesday. We are already late by a week on taking the decision on water cut and the situation is very alarming," said a senior civic official.

Six lakes supplying water to the city have water stock of 1,18,815 million litres, while on the same date last year, the water stock was 3,96,035 million litres. Levels of Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna and Vihar lakes have gone below lowest drawable levels.

The water department has worked out a meticulous plan for the city so that residents don't face much problem. "The micro planning in the contingency plans has been done carefully. Timings of water supply will be changed in such a way that there will be enough pressure even in the fag ends, though supply hours will be reduced," said the official.

The city had faced severe water problems in the year 2009. That year, Mumbai faced 15 to 30% cut. However, the worst phase was in 1993, when the city faced 40% cut throughout the year.DATE USEFUL CONTENT 2014 USEFUL CONTENT 2013 (IN MILLION LITRE)22 June 151790 28017723 June 147468 29170024 June 143987 30043325 June 141049 31066226 June 137055 32453927 June 132545 33390628 June 127997 34711629 June 123481 38020630 June 118815 396035
