According to the police, Kutekar first met the 21-year-old Worli resident on July 15, at the birthday party of her neighbour's daughter. "Kutekar and the girl exchanged mobile numbers at the event. Later, they started talking on the phone frequently and even met a few times at the Chowpatty. During one of these visits, Kutekar asked the girl to marry him. She, however, turned down the proposal," said a Tardeo police officer.

He added, "Kutekar kept calling the girl on her phone. On Friday morning, he called her four times. When she returned his call, Kutekar started pestering her. The girl then told him not to bother her, as she was preparing for her exams. They then met near her college where a heated argument took place, and Kutekar threatened her with dire consequences. The girl immediately lodged a police complaint."

Kutekar has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for assault and threatening.
