The Sessions Court, for the second time in one week, was in a mess when the special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam on Thursday informed the court that one of the accused in the Mumbis gang-rape case at Shakti Mills was untraceable. Advocate Nikam while informing the court about the status of the accused held, "Siraj Khan alias Sirju is not in the police custody, but the accused is in prison under Thane police custody. However the matter of concern is that the Thane prison authorities claim that he is not with them but with the police."
Accordingly the court issued a summons to the Superintendent of the Thane jail to appear before the court and file its reply on Friday. The court also directed the prosecution to produce Sirju before the court on Friday.
After the entire mess, when dna called additional director general (Prisons) Meeran Borwankar, she said that Sirju is very much with the Thane jail and has not fled.
