Almost 18 months after the construction of three Metro corridors started in the city, the first Metro station structure to be ready in the city will be Kasturi Park Metro station on Malad Link Road that is a part of the Dahisar-DN Nagar Metro-2A corridor being constructed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

In 2016, construction work on three Metro corridors namely Dahisar-DN Nagar Metro-2A, Dahisar East- Andheri East Metro-7 and Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro-3 underground corridor started wherein DMRC is constructing the 18-km-long Metro-2A corridor on behalf of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) that will have 17 elevated Metro station between Dahisar and DN Nagar in Andheri.

A DMRC official involved in the construction said, "We have our priority area when it comes to construction of Metro corridor that is between Dahisar and Malad. This means the construction in this area is at more advanced stage than the rest of the alignment."

The DMRC official, added, "The first Metro station structure that will be ready after the work started in 2016 will be Kasturi Park Metro station that will be ready before June. By structure, we do not mean the interiors of the stations but only the exteriors. Later on other amenities like the staircase, toilets, flooring, control room and station master room will be completed by year end."

Out of the total 17 stations, DMRC aims to complete construction on structures of at least 10 Metro stations before the end of monsoon. Overall, around 50 per cent of the total civil construction work is completed on Metro-2A corridor that is going to be made operational for the general public by 2020.

"The pace of civil construction is currently not up to the mark, and there are several stretches in Dahisar and Malad wherein the required land for the Metro construction is not handed over to us by the MMRDA that is responsible for the land acquisition of the project," DMRC official added.

The civil construction of Metro-2A corridor is Rs 6,410 crore and the daily average estimated ridership for the same when it is made operational is around 4 lakh passengers daily. The Metro-2A corridor is also going to be integrated with two Metro corridors namely Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro-1 corridor and the proposed DN Nagar-Mankhurd Metro-2B corridor.
