Mumbai: Final call for FYJC seat begins today
No more special or merit rounds for 11th std admission
As many as 19,686 students will be trying their luck from Wednesday to get a seat in the first-year junior colleges (FYJC) through the first-come-first-serve (FCFS) basis since it could be their last resort to secure admission.The state education department confirmed that there won't be any more special rounds or 'merit'-based rounds for the admission of 11th standard as casually called. Meanwhile, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) has over 1.03 lakh FYJC vacant seats.As per the state education department notification, the students, who have scored over 80 per cent in class 10th and are without a seat, would be given first priority to apply for enrollment through the official website of FYJC between 10 am to 5 pm on Wednesday. Meanwhile, 60 per cent and above category students to get the second preference, followed by 35 per cent and above at third on August 23 and August 26 respectively between the same time.Students can check the official FYJC website to access the MMR colleges vacancy list. However, as per the availability of seats, students can apply during the given slot of day and time, the notification also read.A senior official at the education department talking on the FCFS admission said, "Unlike merit basis rounds, there won't be many options to choose for admission FCFS basis. It is mandatory for the students to secure admission in whichever college they get and should apply in the colleges that match to their scored percentage and college's vacancy."
