Mumbai feels the 'chill' at 12.4°C, colder than Mahabaleshwar

The city was cooler than Mahabaleshwar and Matheran on Thursday, with the temperature dipping to 12.4°C, 5°C below normal. Mahabaleshwar recorded a minimum temperature of 14°C, while the minimum temperature at Matheran was 13.4°C. The city also recorded the lowest minimum temperature of this winter season- as well as in December since 2016.

Rajesh Kapadia, a private weather forecaster who also runs the popular weather blog Vagaries of Weather said that they had predicted this drop and had written about it in his blog three days ago. "Friday too would continue to be cool. This pleasant weather could be attributed to the northerly winds and is likely to continue till year end. However there is a likelihood of the maximum temperatures rising after Sunday due to the effect of easterly winds," he said.

"I spent both my mornings as well as evenings at Bandra Joggers Park, enjoying the chill in the air. I'm glad it was cold and breezy throughout the day. We hardly get to enjoy the chill of winters in Mumbai," said Nishita Raorane, a resident of Bandra.

Cold wave grips north Madhya Maharashtra:

Several parts of north Madhya Maharashtra are currently experiencing bitter winters with mercury dipping below 5°C.

As per Skymet, a private weather forecasting agency, with the cold northerly winds blowing over the region, minimums have dropped significantly over the entire state, particularly the north Madhya Maharashtra. North Konkan and Goa have also witnessed a major drop in their minimum temperature.

"We have issued a warning for cold wave conditions likely to occur in the isolated pockets of Nasik and Ahmednagar districts from December 27 to 29 and earlier too warning were in place for north Madhya Maharashtra," said an IMD official.
