Mumbai: Drunk jay-walker causes serial accident, schoolgirl bears the brunt

The accident came to light after an alert motorist informed the police who then rushed to the spot and cleared the traffic caused due to the accident.

In a serial accident, a minor school girl escaped with minor injuries on Monday morning, while a jay-walker, said to be in an inebriated state, sustained fracture after he was dangerously crossing the road in front of the Mahim.

According to the jurisdictional traffic police, the serial accident was caused by a vagabond and an alcoholic, Dinesh Bhaskar, who darted on the road when a two-wheeler rider hit him.

The probe revealed that the accused rider identified as Harshad Kishore Kate (33) fled the spot. Kate had applied breaks but could not avert the collision. The accident occurred in front of the Mahim Church at about 8.15 am.

Meanwhile, two BEST buses followed by a private school bus were forced to apply emergency brakes. While the two buses managed to escape, the school bus rear-ended another BEST bus.

The police said that the collision led to injuring of a girl child sitting in the front row of the school bus. She sustained minor injury on her upper lip and was given medical assistance by the lady attendant present in the bus.

The accident came to light after an alert motorist informed the police who then rushed to the spot and cleared the traffic caused due to the accident. The school bus belonged to Arya Vidya Mandir. The bus was ferrying around 10 students to school when the mishap occurred, added a police official.

Mahim traffic police have registered a case in this regard and probe is underway. A team is on the lookout of the rider.
