The drug peddlers have started hiring eunuchs who deliberately intervene during a police action and at times, even indulge in heated arguments with cops.
Recently, the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) conducted a raid and seized 70 kg cannabis worth Rs 70 lakhs from Ambujwadi slum area of Malad. However, what surprisedthem was the resistance they faced from eunuchs during the raid.
The incident is not one of a kind. This has become a trend. According to the police, the drug peddlers have started hiring eunuchs who deliberately intervene during a police action and at times, even indulge in heated arguments with cops.
Speaking more on the issue, an officer told DNA that modern-day drug smugglers are taking all possible factors into consideration and are hiring eunuchs who are bold enough to meddle with police.
"With the help of eunuchs, the cops are easily misguided at places which are difficult to track. Like a shield of protection for smugglers, they have stationed at all major junctions of the slums. When cops come to conduct a raid, they tend to give false information to the police and raise an alarm to the dealers who clear the area of drugs within a short span of time. The police wander around the area in vain," said the police
According to police reports, drug peddlers usually exploit the weakness of the people at slums and make them addicts of cheap drugs like marijuana, cannabis, cough syrup, bostick glue bottles and many others. In order to make their small but profitable businesses safe and away from police radar such methodologies are used to escape arrest.
"At times, when police officers object, the eunuchs indulge in verbal spat thereby making a scene portraying that they have been abused or assaulted so the officers refrain from taking any action. In the recent raid at Ambujwdi, we successfully seized the 70 kg drugs and are further investigating the case,"added the officer.
