The Mumbai division of Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHE) has been conducting Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and School Secondary Certificate (SSC) examinations for maximum number of subjects in the state. The HSC examination is over while the SSC examination is currently underway.
The board has been conducting examination of a total 204 subjects, of which 126 subjects are in HSC and 76 subjects in SSC examination. The herculean task of conducting the board examination becomes more tedious for education board when subjects are added every year. This year, the Information Communication Technology (ICT) paper was added. With the addition of ICT paper, the Mumbai division has been conducting a total 96 papers examination in SSC. In addition, the board has to conduct the examination in different languages like Hindi, Marathi and Gujarati. "After the examination we have to sort out the answer sheets separately and subsequently send them to different examiners," said Laxmikant Pande, chairman of Mumbai division.
The examination preparation starts about four to five months before the actual examination schedule and it continues even after the examination. "While the examinations are underway, the assessment works is also executed at the same time," said Pande. After assessment, the front page of the answer sheet, where the aggregate marks of the subjects are written is torn. "The torn part is then scanned and mark sheets are prepared," said Pande.
According to board officials, more than hundred employees work round the clock during and after the examination to complete the process smoothly. "When the quantity of work is compared with the errors in hall ticket and seating arrangement, the latter comes out to be very low very low," said an official.
