With an aim to lead an independent life, Bihar-based Dev Mishra, who lost both his legs in a railway accident in 2015, came to Mumbai two years ago. Mishra now participates in various dance reality shows in order to earn a living and showcase his talent. He will be soon appearing for this 12th board exam this year.

He is ambitious and wants to focus his education. "I want to complete my education which I was not able to a few years ago. I dropped out of my schooling four times since childhood as my family could not afford my education financially," said Mishra, who is youngest of three siblings. His mother has been a backbone and financial support for his family as he lost his father at a very young age.

Before the accident, he worked in Hyderabad along with his brother as a welder. In June 2015, he met with a railway accident while he was trying to board the train and lost his legs above his knees.

After landing in Mumbai he wished to meet his favourite celebrity star Salman Khan. He waited outside his residence for days hoping to seek help from the star, but he returned empty handed every time. Later Farah Khan Ali, a jewellery designer extended a helping hand to Mishra. "She has helped me a lot. She gives me Rs 10,000 per month which helps me to manage my monthly expense. She also helped me to get prosthetic feet," added Mishra.

Speaking about what made him travel from Bihar to Mumbai, Mishra said, "After the incident, my brother criticised me as I was dependent on him. I took this in right spirits, and this inspired me to be an independent individual. It's always better to lead an independent life"

He went to Jaipur to get prosthetic feet, but it did not fit. Mishra helplessly sat at Jaipur station waiting to board his train.

But rather than boarding a return train, he boarded a train for Mumbai and came to Mumbai in August 2017.
