Mumbai crime branch to file supplementary charge sheet against Abu Jundal

The Mumbai crime branch would soon be filing a supplementary charge sheet in connection with the arrest of Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal, who is said to be a key player in the 26/11 terror attacks that rocked Mumbai.

Sources from the crime branch said that filing of the supplementary charge sheet in the Jundal case would be done on ‘priority basis.’

Jundal, who was brought to Mumbai on July 21, is currently in the custody of the Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS).

The supplementary charge sheet has to be filed within 90 days of the arrest. The charge sheet would be submitted in the Esplanade court.

“We are waiting for the voice analysis report which will strengthen our case that Jundal was in touch with the terrorists who had attacked Mumbai on 26/11. The calls were intercepted by the crime branch on the day which Jundal is heard instructing the terrorists,” said a source.

Jundal not only stayed with the 10 terrorists, including Ajmal Kasab, but also trained them to speak in Hindi and Marathi. He made sure that the terrorists could easily mingle with the crowd without raising suspicion.

Jundal, who is originally from Beed district of Maharashtra and used to work as an electrician, had become a radical after the 2002 Gujarat riots. He joined Lashkar-e-Toiba and soon became one of the most trusted lieutenants of the terror outfit. He was also the mastermind of the 2006 Aurangabad arms haul case in which dangerous arms and ammunitions were brought into the state to create mayhem. Jundal’s name also cropped up in the German bakery blast.

He was nabbed by the IB from Saudi Arabia and was brought to Delhi where he was first questioned. His custody was then handed over the Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS). However, the court had given Jundal’s custody to the crime branch first for involvement in the 26/11 terror attacks and later he was sent to the custody of ATS.
