City crime branch sleuths have arrested seven persons, allegedly involved in an online gambling racket. The police alleged that the accused persons were running unauthorised lottery thereby causing revenue losses to the government.

Those arrested have been identified as Jaiprakash Gupta, 50, Naveen Sharma, 29, Bhagwansingh Rajput, 53, Ashokumar Vishwakarma, 42, Yogesh Dubey, 32, Prakash Kale, 43, and Hemal alias Vicky Bhagwanji, 39.

According to the police, on Tuesday, Unit III of crime branch had received specific information that staffers from Joker World Video Games in Goregaon are running online gambling causing loss of revenue to the government.

A raid was conducted at the said place and the accused persons were nabbed. Three computers hard disks, three mobile phones, two routers, three LCD monitors and cash Rs 18800 were seized by the police during the raid.

"The accused were using an illegal online gaming system which resulted in revenue loss to the government. Those arrested have been booked for cheating under the sections of Indian Penal Code, Lottery Regulation Act and Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act," said a crime branch officer.
