In an effort to effectively address waterlogging during monsoon the civic body is planning to take help from the common man. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will upgrade its disaster management mobile app that will enable common people to send photographs of waterlogged areas with the location using the Geographic Information System (GIS).

According to an official from BMC's disaster cell, the cell will make a record of all complaints received through its mobile app to solve the problem. "We will use the GIS system to check the cause of waterlogging and whether it has been addressed by the concerned department," said the official.

Complaints regarding delays in the BMC addressing waterlogging in the city during monsoon are common and usually the reason is non-functioning de-watering pumps. "We will get the exact location of where waterlogging has occured through photographs received through our GPS-enabled mobile application. We will also find out the exact reason and accordingly, the concerned department will be asked to look into the matter," said the official. The official said that there are some locations which are prone to waterlogging as they are low lying. He added that correct information provided by citizens will help reduce water-logging during monsoon.
