Supporters demonstrated outside CST on Friday against the life sentence awarded by a Raipur court to Binayak Sen, a human rights activist known for his work among Chhattisgarh’s tribals.

The Committee for the Release of Binayak Sen (CRBS) organised the protest.

Renowned documentary filmmaker Anand Patwardhan said: “The Chhattisgarh government is out to get him because he exposed human rights violations and physical atrocities committed by the Salwa Judum against tribals.”

Sambhaji Bhagat, well-known protest poet and singer, said, “We will appeal in the high court and continue the legal battle for Sen’s release.”

The CRBS has demanded the repeal of the dreaded Chhattisgarh Special Security Act, Sen’s release on bail, and withdrawal of the false case against him. It also offered rebuttals to the police’s claims.

It said that Sen did not pass letters from naxalite prisoner Narayan Sanyal to a supporter outside the jail. It also claimed that the police who raided Sen’s house planted evidence against him.
