Maharashtra minister Vinod Tawde soon ordered a probe in the incident saying Railway and BMC will jointly probe the incident. However, when reminded that it was not the first railway bridge collapse in recent times, he did not answer.

He said that a slab of the bridge had collapsed. He added that the bridge was not in a bad condition and minor repairs were underway.

BJP MLA Raj Purohit said it was an unfortunate incident. He asked for action to be taken against the engineer who gave certificate to this bridge in auditing.

On the other hand Shiv Sena are blaming railway for the collapse. Pandurang Sakpal, Vibhag Pramukh of Shiv Sena, said that Sena corporator Ganesh Sanap had written letter to railway about the bridge back in 2014 but railway did not repair or give NOC.

Arvind Sawant of Shiv Sena said that auditors and engineers have not consulted the bridge properly and before the bridge could be repaired the unfortunate incident happened.

Congress leader Milind Deora said that it was a BMC bridge and not a Railway bridge. He added that the structural audit was done around 6 months ago and it was said that bridge is safe and only minor repairs were required.

He called for section 302 (murder) case to be lodged against structural auditors and the BMC officers who appointed them and the auditors conducted the audit.
