In a much-needed relief for the senior citizens and differently-abled voters, the Election Commission has asked the local authorities to arrange the polling booths at the ground level only.

“In Mumbai itself, there are more than 700 polling booths that are either on the first or the second floor. Now, we have to rearrange whole things,” said Shivajirao Jhondale, Mumbai city collector. He said that they have identified several locations and the relocating the polling booths from the first and second floor to ground floor is on. “We are personally visiting the places and looking at the feasibility so that the vehicle can come nearby. Besides, the identified places should be accessible to the people also,” Jondhale added. Another official said that they are not getting enough numbers of ground floor building where the polling booth can be arranged. “In these cases, we are planning to erect the temporary shelters where the polling can be conducted. We have to every arrangement in these temporary shelters,” official added.

Senior elections official said that the shifting the polling to ground floor has pertained to Mumbai only.
