Mumbai: 2 die in unauthorised plywood godown at Andheri's Veera Desai Road

Two people died and three others were injured after the plywood in the godown collapsed on them, on Sunday.

The plywood godown that led to the death of two people and injured three is an illegal structure, said a BMC officer. The BMC had sent notice to it last year but the structure remained intact. Now, the BMC will take action against other godowns too.

Two people died and three others were injured after the plywood in the godown collapsed on them, on Sunday. The incident took place in a godown at Veera Desai Road, Andheri (west). Locals said that the plywood work was being carried out in the godown during the collapse. "There are many plywood godowns in this area. The plywood piled up in various parts in the godown collapsed on the workers," said a BMC officer. Prashant Gaikwad, assistant commissioner of K west ward said, "The whole structure is unauthorised. We even sent a notice to them in 2017. But, such structures are rebuilt again. We are going to take action on this as well as on other running illegally in the area."

The two people who died were identified as Suraj (28 years) and Mukbul (27 years). The other three people who were injured are Narad Shahani (21 years), Mohammed Tasilum (24 years) and Mahesh Kumar (32 years).
