MUMBAI
The Kalwa police have registered a case against 21-year-old Savita Rajesh Jadhav, who abandoned her infant girl child in Kalwa hospital on September 22. She left the hospital without informing the nurses and other hospital staff. She had given an address in Saraswat Nagar in Kalwa, but it turned out to be wrong.
The child was born prematurely and the woman brought it to the hospital and it was immediately admitted as its condition was not stable.
A sister in the hospital, on condition of anonymity, said: "When she came here, she had looked very tense and disturbed."
Sources in the police said: "The woman gave birth prematurely. The baby was in a bad state and after it was brought to the hospital, it was kept in NICU (neonatal intensive care unit). On Sept 22, the mother told the nurse that she going to feed her daughter and later disappeared. The next day when she was not seen with the child, hospital staff searched all over, but couldn't find her. After waiting for a day, they lodged a complaint at Kalwa police station.
"We went to the address she had given at the hospital, but it was wrong. The number she had given was of a Ghatkopar resident who had lost his phone four months back. He didn't know the mother or the child. It has been more than three days now, but we have not lost hope. We will trace her. The baby is in Kalwa hospital now."
The police have registered a case against the woman under IPC section 317 (exposure and abandonment of child under 12 years by parent or person taking care of it).
