"Two days ago we received clearance from the CRS to start launching girders at Wadala bridge, so that work on the second phase can progress further," said a Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) official.

The earlier approval from CRS was pertaining to the design of the bridge structure, but now the approval is pertaining to the total number of blocks that will be made available so that the girder and final bridge structure can be put into place.

However, the MMRDA is yet to receive the final nod from CRS for girder launching at Currey Road station. Last November, MMRDA's monorail project had received clearance for the design of the bridge and location of pillars that don't clash with railway plans of laying additional tracks.

Approval from CRS is crucial for early completion of the already delayed Mumbai Monorail project. As per the latest deadline worked out, the second phase between Wadala Depot and Jacob Circle should be ready for public by December.

On February 1 last year, the first phase, ie Chembur-Wadala Depot, was inaugurated.
