Home minister RR Patil in the legislative council announced the suspension of an IPS officer Jawahar Singh for interviewing prisoners over jail conditions. Patil said that the home department was working to modernise the police force by setting up chemical warfare units, marine academies, urban terror training and cyber cells. “There were complaints against this officer in MHADA due to which we transferred him to Aurangabad jail. But there too, he overstepped his brief and interviewed prisoners involved in bomb blasts case. I announce his suspension on the floor of the house,” said Patil.

Patil said he was planning to form a team of senior IPS officials from the state and send them to other states in the country where the conviction rate was high.
