MMRDA works to better lives of project affected people

The Social Development Cell of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has taken up improving the quality of life of close to 40,000 project-affected families. 

The human development initiative, with the help of Ambedkar Centre for Justice and Peace’s Resource Centre, after studying 1,084 project-affected families residing at Gautam Nagar, Govandi, has provided services for health, education and livelihood. 

In the health sector, health camps, health services and follow-ups for the handicapped, eye patients, pregnant women and for the general public were conducted.

In the education sector, opening of anganwadis and English medium nursery schools, counselling and re-enrolment of dropouts, provision of study rooms were carried out. Training, skill development, career guidance and placement camps were organised. 

“1,663 individuals benefited from this programme,” said the cell’s chief Vishram Patil.

“The recipients were addressed through the unique model of facilitation and networking with the BMC and various NGOs. A rare feature of the programme is identification, training and involvement of local volunteers in large numbers.”
