The executives had written to several authorities, including MMRDA and the BMC, for cycle stands at Bandra station and BKC.

MMRDA, which is the special planning authority for BKC, said that a policy on beautification of the business hub is yet to be decided and therefore it cannot accept the demand as of now.

In a reply, MMRDA said, "The proposal to have a cycle stand is BKC is in relation to the beautification process of BKC. However, the demand of cycle stand cannot be implemented now as the final decision on the beautification of BKC is yet to be taken."

According to an MMRDA official, "We have shot down the demand for now because we are working on a plan to turn BKC into a mini smart city known as Smart BKC in which such utilities are proposed but a final decision is still awaited until which any construction cannot be done."

However, Bhavesh Shah, who commutes daily to BKC for work and had demanded cycle stand, said, "The MMRDA first constructed a cycle track but did not consider cycle stand because of which cycle track was removed later. But now they should consider demand of cycle stand seriously as it not only environment friendly but will also help avoiding traffic snarls during peak hours in BKC."

Daily around 2 lakh people go for work in BKC where the MMRDA had constructed a cycle track in 2011 spending Rs 6 crore but was shut in 2016 as it remained unused.

Meanwhile, in the coming days travelling to BKC will get more deadlier with the MMRDA planning to start construction work for DN Nagar BKC Metro-2B for which barricades will be installed in BKC.
