The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) executing the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro-3 underground corridor has initiated the process of acquiring privately-owned land measuring 1,442 square meters required for the construction of Metro-3 in areas like Grant Road, Marine Lines, Girgaum and Bhuleshwar.

Apart from south Mumbai, acquisition of another 4,852 square meters in south central Mumbai and western suburbs will also be taken for temporary and permanent periods. The MMRC requires around 78 hectares of land for Metro-3, of which 13.57 hectares will be acquired permanently and 65.10 hectares temporarily. Of the total, MMRC has almost completed the acquisition of land owned by the government which is around 75 hectares. The remaining three hectares is privately-owned, for which the acquisition has begun.

An official from MMRC said, "For privately-owned land parcels we have given 15 days to the general public for any suggestions or objections for the acquisition. The public notice was issued on Sunday and starting Monday we have given 15 days to the private parties who are going to be affected."
